Rosanna Smelser, 79, formerly of Peru, passed away at 7:06am, Monday, December 16, 2019 at The Laurels of Gahanna, Gahanna, OH. She was born on January 6, 1940, the daughter of Silas and Rosa Kemp. Rosanna married Dr. Kenneth Smelser at Westside Gospel Tabernacle in Indianapolis on December 30, 1966 and he preceded her in death on November 22, 2009.
Rose was an LPN and worked as an OB nurse for over 25 years at Dukes Memorial Hospital. She helped deliver many Miami County babies and always loved when people would come up to her and say she was the nurse who helped deliver and care for, their children or grandchildren. She was a former member of the McGrawsville United Methodist Church. Her greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She deeply loved her family. Rose was an amazing cook and enjoyed crafting in her free time.
Surviving is a daughter, Rebecca Garrett and her husband Mike of Columbus, OH, a son, Richard Smelser and his wife Kelly of Chipley, FL; grandchildren Silas(17), Faith(15), Levi(12), Elizabeth(12), and Isaiah(8); and sisters Catherine Yoder and Fanny Marie Harvey. Was also proceeded in death by her parents, and her brother Samuel Kemp.
A service celebrating the life of Rosanna Smelser will be held at 11:30 A.M., Friday, December 20, 2019 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St., Peru with Pastor Ken Cole officiating. Burial will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery, Amboy. Calling hours for family and friends will be from 9:00 to 11:30 A.M., Friday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.
