Robert P. Pier, 96, of Peru, passed away at 5:00 P.M., Thursday, May 2, 2019 at his residence. Bob was born in Miami County on January 10, 1923, the son of Clarence and Grace Engel Pier. He married Marlene Hahn on January 9, 1953 and she survives. Bob was a 1941 graduate of Bunker Hill High School, attended the Mexico Baptist Church and was a retired plumber. Throughout his long life, Bob demonstrated his compassion and gentleness to everyone he met. No one was a stranger, and he greeted everyone with a hug or a handshake and a huge smile He was the patriarch of the family; the rock on which everyone could rely. He lived a very active life, was a avid golfer, fisherman and mushroom hunter. He thoroughly enjoyed winters in Florida, where his primary activity was shuffling. Surviving in addition to his wife, Marlene, is a son, Douglas Pier and his wife Diana of Galveston, IN; a daughter, Vicki Musselman and her husband Michael of Roann, IN and grandchildren David (Carlene) Musselman, Kathy (Scott) Exmeyer, Missy (Michael ) Mowery, Thillia (Kevin) Reynolds, Chris (Danielle) Pier, Amanda Pierce, Angela Bailey and Jason Winkler. Also surviving are sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Henry, Wilbur, Joseph, Donald, Roy and Ellis Pier and sisters Wanita Pier, Gladys White, Irene Graft, Sylvia Jones and Dorothy Wolf. A service celebrating the life of Robert P. Pier will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St., Peru with Pastor Charles Cole officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M., Sunday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Miami County Helping Hands.
