Regis C. McAllister, 96, of Peru, passed away at 3:35 P.M., Friday, July 12, 2019 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Peru, IN. She was born in Peru on June 6, 1923, the daughter of John T. and Josephine Haley McAllister.
Regis was a 1941 graduate of Peru High School and a 1945 graduate of the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in South Bend, IN. She was employed as a RN at the Wabash Railroad Hospital from 1946 till 1949. In 1949 she went to work for Dr. Sam and Dr. Don Ferrara where she remained until her retirement in 1988. After retiring from her nursing career, Regis maintained an active social life. She loved to play euchre and enjoyed spending time with friends. She later returned to work at Area V for several years which she so enjoyed.
A life long member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Regis’s greatest joy in life was her Roman Catholic Faith as witnessed by her regular attendance at daily Mass. Most of all, she did her best, lived well, laughed often and was loved by many – a life well lived by any standard.
Regis was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Altar & Rosary Society and the Indiana State Nurse’s Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mary McAllister and a brother Joseph McAllister, a great nephew, Todd Bryant, and a niece, Pam Mishler.
She is survived by her niece, Linda (Larry) Bryant, great nephew, Tim (Nikki) Bryant, and great niece, Tiffany (Wade) Byrd and their children, Hudson, Haley, and Rowen Byrd.
Regis treasured many special friends as family, including Gerrie-Anne Mohr, Shelly (Doran) Tracy and her children, Braxton and Madison Tracy, Stephanie Doran, and Drew Doran. Also, including special friends, Marjorie and Richard Windsor, Kristie and Peyton Carney, Cherie and Bud Clark, and Terie and Mark Parkman.
A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating the life of Regis McAllister will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at the St. Charles Catholic Church, 58 West 5th St., Peru with Rev. John Ford officiating. Burial will be in the Mt Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 16th at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St., Peru. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the St. Charles Catholic Church.
