Michael Brechbiel Obituary

Michael Brechbiel, 75, Greenwood, IN, formerly of Peru, IN passed away at 2:10 PM on December 7, 2019 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis, IN.  He was born in Peru on January 13, 1944, the son of Lyman and Mildred Hendrix Brechbiel.  On February 14, 1982 he married Barbara Bishop and became a wonderful “Poppa” to his daughter Michelle and grandfather to her family.

Mike graduated Bunker Hill High School in 1962 and also attended Ball State University.  He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He started a career in beverage management, developing it into food and beverage and then in to sales and marketing with various resorts and was well-liked by his staff and colleagues.  Later in life he worked as an estimator and insurance liaison for United & Golden Chassis.  He then went on to work for Kroger in the meat department.   Mike truly enjoyed playing golf with his buddies, and just for good measure, his favorite #5 wood is going with him.  He also enjoyed playing softball, playing cards, spending time with family & friends and eating breakfast with his former Kroger friends.  After he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease he joined Rock Steady, a boxing program to keep the disease at bay and he worked at it 2 to 3 times a week.

Mike loved to tease, but he was always there if you needed anything.  You could say Mike wasn’t a religious man as to sitting in church, but he lived his religion in doing the right thing, being kind and loving his family. He loved family above all and is survived by his wife Barbara,  a sister, Rita Eckelbarger of Roann, IN, a daughter Michelle (William) Payne of Indianapolis, grandchildren; Brianna (Andrew) Hodge, Tierany Stewart, Kendra (Troy) Wilkinson, Levi Payne, Keeley (Freddie) Waters and Lindsay (Johnathan) Helm and five great-grandchildren; Bella, Ezra, Kinley, Braxton, Braylon, Lylli, Serenity and Jackson.
