Lyle O. "Cy" Boner

Lyle O. "Cy" Boner 80, of Peru, passed away at 6:16 AM, Saturday, June 16. 2018.  Cy was born in Parkersburg, WV, on July 19, 1937 the son of James Matthew and Helen Melvina Wheeland Boner.  He was raised in Erie, PA and graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1955.  Upon graduation from High School Cy entered the US Marine Corp where he served from 1955 until 1959.  He was then employed by Erie Strayer CO. and Graybar Electric CO in Erie, PA.  He reentered in Military Service in 1962 and retired on October 1, 1983.  His military decorations  include the Air Force Commendation Medal. the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the Marine Corp Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the American Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal and the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon.   Upon retirement from the Air Force Cy made his home in Peru and served as the Officer's Club Manager at Grissom Air Force Base and also was employed as a Supervisor at Switches Inc. of Logansport, IN.  He was past Commander of American Legion Glen Owens Post #14.  Additionally Cy belonged to the Miami County VFW Post #2067, the United States Bowling Congress and the Miami County Bowling Association.  In addition to his love of bowling Cy was an avid golfer.   He is survived by daughters Karen M. Boner Bartlet and her husband Jeremy of FL, and Denise Boner Smith and her husband Louis of Smyrna, GA, a son David Boner and his wife Amy of Fall River, MA; grandchildren Heather Boner, William Boner, Kayla Strata, Kevin Smith, Andrew Boner, Matthew Boner and Kristen Morrow and great grandchildren Gwendolyn Boner, Brantley Strata, Weston Michael and Laundrey Strata.  Family and  friends of Lyle O. "Cy" Boner will gather from Noon till 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main Street, Peru, IN.  Military Rites will be provided by the members of the Miami County Military Rites Unit at 2:00 PM, Wednesday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the Marion National Cemetery in Marion, IN.
