Leonard D. Carver, 85, of Peru, passed away at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Blair Ridge Health Campus, Peru. Leonard was born in Kokomo, IN on February 18, 1934, the son of Charles B. and Sarah Konk Carver. Leonard married Kazuko Matsumoto on August 23, 1960 in Fukuoka, Japan and she survives.
Leonard enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 and served 26 years, including the late two in the Criminal Investigations Division, retiring as a Petty Officer First Class. He then worked at Fort Benjamin Harrison as a Mechanic for two years before retiring and moving to Peru. Leonard’s Military decorations include the Purple Heart, the Korean and Vietnam Service Medals and the National Defense Medal, the United Nations and Expeditionary medals of the Armed Forces, Combat Action, Navy/USCG Unit Commendation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation with Bronze Star.
An avid fisherman, Leonard spent much of his retirement creating new lures and inventions for fishing and studying rocks and gemstones.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Kazuko, is a daughter, Jean Ann Carver Roberts, a granddaughter Amanda Roberts, a brother Ivan (Paula) Carver, a sister-in-law Marjorie Carver and nieces and nephews. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, son, John F.D. Carver, brothers Charles, Thomas and Daniel and sisters Ione Tayler, Gloria Gates and Viola J. Evans.
Military Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 8, 2019 at Marion National Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home to the Miami County Military Rites Unit.
There will be no formal visitation or funeral service. Arrangements entrusted to the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.
