John F. Gerhart

John F. Gerhart, 70, of Amboy, passed away at 3:15 A.M., Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at his residence. He was born in Peru on May 27, 1948, the son of Orla (Jr) Gerhart and Ann Miklus Kolmerton. John married Carolyn S. Hill on March 30, 1968 and she survives. John was a 1966 graduate of North Miami High School and was an U. S. Army Veteran. After 35 years of service, John retired from Chrysler in 2001. He was a member of the UAW Local 685. An avid car buff, John loved drag racing and Hot Rods and spent every weekend at the dragstrip with his racing family. Surviving in addition to his wife, Carolyn, is his mother, Ann (Ken) Kolmerton of Indianapolis, a son Michael Gerhart and his wife Tina of Bunker Hill, a daughter Michelle Harrison and her husband Robert of Sharpsville, grandchildren Abigail Gerhart and Jonathan Gerhart, a great-granddaughter Zoey Dowler, a brother Larry Gerhart and his wife Jean of Auburn, IN, sister-in -law Kathy (Rod) Brubaker of Wabash, IN, and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his father, a sister Bonnie Gerhart Nuccio, and granddaughter Allison Tyler. A service celebrating the life of John F. Gerhart, will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 N. Main St., Amboy, with Pastor Kerstan Bayless officiating. Burial will follow in Park Lawn Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit. Family and friends will gather from 11:00 A.M. till time of service at 1:00 P.M. at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Miami County Military Rites Unit.
