Jack Sheehan Obituary

Jack Lynn Sheehan, 95, passes away from this life peacefully at home on January 17, 2020.  He was born January 11, 1925 to Ivan T. Sheehan and Olive Gardner in Monroeville, Indiana.

Growing up. Jack’s father Ivan worked as a grocer at Kroger, and when he died unexpectedly young, Jack’s mother Olive became a school teacher.  Jack began working at the same local Kroger to help his family.

In Monroeville, Jack met Mary Bower, his future wife.  He graduated from Monroeville High School in 1942.  With the coming of World War II, Jack enlisted on March 31, 1943, shortly after turning 18.  During the war, Jack and Mary kept in touch, sending letters and pictures to each other.  Jack maintained meticulous records on a map of his journey around the South Pacific for his service.  When he was discharged in 1946, he returned home to marry his love, Mary, on October 28, 1946.

Jack was moved to Peru, Indiana in 1959 to be the manager of the Kroger store.  Mary and he built a beloved home in Peru and had four children.  They loved swing music, high school basketball games, their growing family and laughter.  They were members of the Peru Maennerchor and St. Charles Church.  Jack retired in 1984 after 40 years with Kroger.  On April 29, 1996 Mary preceded him in death.

Jack was an easy going soul, who knew how to crack a joke.  His car was legendary for his smooth driving, smooth jazz and the stash of lemon drop candy for his grandkids.  Jack possessed the magical gift of making you feel comfortable to be in silence with him.  He was gentle, kind and strong.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his parents, a sister Joyce Brown and a special loving companion Shirley Weaver.  He leaves behind his children Becky (Bob) Catey of Peru; Carol (Terry) Biddle of Peru; Cathy (Ed) Hepner of San Antonio, TX; Steve (Tammy) Sheehan of Fishers, IN; grandchildren Branden Biddle, Kelly Biddle, Alison Catey Hayreh, Erin Catey Carmichael, Lauren Catey Dillon, Emma Hepner, Lucas Hepner, Jack Sheehan, Max Sheehan and great grandchildren Madison Biddle, Lauren Biddle, Olive Hayreh and Innis Hayreh.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at a later date.  Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
