Hugh H. Hartley, Jr. formerly of Peru, passed away April 25, 2018 in Ocala, Florida. He was born in Washington D.C., June 30, 1930 the son of Hugh H. Hartley, Sr. and Evelyn Irene Heflin. Hugh married Ruth Hann in Washington, D.C. on February 28, 1953 and she preceded him in death on February 19, 1995. Hugh graduated from Eastern High School in Washington D.C. and served as a noncommissioned officer in the United States Air Force for 26 years. His Military Declarations include the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Upon retirement from the Air Force Hugh went to work for Paul Richard Chevrolet in Peru as a Salesman for 16 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, a lifelong member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. His interest were golfing and bowling. He is survived by his sons Stephen Hartley of Dunnellon, FL Gary Hartley and his wife Alicemary of Peru, and Mark Hartley and his wife Cindy of Fuquay-Varina, NC; grandchildren Nathan Hartley and his wife Lu, Aaron Hartley and his wife Kelsie, Isaac Hartley, Mary Alice Hartley and Ellen Marie Sipes and her husband Jeffrey; great-grandchildren Ellie Joy Hartley, Peter Hartley, Thomas Hartley and George Sipes. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth and sisters Helen Heloise Hartley and Winifred Ellen Brubaker. A Memorial Service Celebrating the life of Hugh H. Hartley, Jr. will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, 181 W. Main Street, Peru, IN with Pastor Kenneth Greenwald officiating. Visitation will be at the Church from 11:00 – 1:00 PM on Saturday. The Miami County Military Rites Unite will provide Graveside Services at 2:00 PM, Saturday at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Church.
