George J. Thurston

George J. Thurston, 84, of Peru, passed away at 7:00 A.M., Thursday, July 11, 2019 at his residence. George was born in Catron, MO on June 9, 1935, the son of George J. and Jennie Mae Seals Thurston. George married Judith C. Helsley in Greentown, IN on June 28, 1961 and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2018. George was a veteran in the U. S. Army and was retired from Marburger Foods in 1999 where he operated the Refrigerated Express Division. He was an example of purest devotion foremost to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but also to his church and country. Surviving are his children Steven James Holder and his wife Joyce, St. Mary’s GA, George J. Thurston, III and his wife Marcie, Peru, IN, Catherine Jane Wilburn and her husband Henry, Peru, IN, Deleda Joy Holder, Peru, IN; grandchildren Shane Church, Chris Holder, Kyle Holder, Brandon Laferney, Kayla Galbraith, Tabitha Thurston, Mistie Ehl, Eric Thurston and Travis Wade Holder and Dakota Jesse Wright ; great grandchildren Kierstin Lynn Church, Sierra Galbraith, Gage Church, Rachel Holder and Chelsea Galbraith, Lucien Laferney, Aubrie Galbraith, Abbie Manriquez, Jacob Manriquez, Issac Rapert, Hope Ehl, Lilly Pearson , Adrianne Ehl, Chloe Galbraith, Annabelle Laferney, Nolan Galbraith, Ellie Holder, Emma Roberts, Dustin Roberts, Mckynlee Wright and Gideon Laferney; a great-great grandson Myles Joseph Williams. George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Judy, brothers Eubene Thurston, Dempsey Thurston and Shirley Thurston and sisters Anna Mae McKinley and Mary Copp. A service celebrating the life of George J. Thurston will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 15, 2019 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru with Rev. Terry Carter officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit. Family and friends will gather from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M., Sunday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Church of Christ at Grissom.
