Edith A (Colbert) Files

Edith A. Files, 89, of Amboy, IN, passed away at 4:40 PM, Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Kokomo, IN. She was born in McClellandtown, PA, on August 13, 1929, the daughter of George W. and Florence Conn Colbert.

Edith married John A. Files on October 21, 1951 and he preceded her in death on February 3, 1989. Edith graduated from the Union Hospital School of Nursing in Terra Haute and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing Education from Indiana State Teachers College, Terre Haute, IN. Edith was employed as a Registered Nurse at the VA Hospital in Marion, IN, the Davis Clinic in Marion, IN and was an Insurance Nurse for RCA in Marion, IN.

She had an avid interest in government and has voted in every election since 1952. Edith served in every position on the Amboy Indian Election Board and also served as the City Clerk Treasurer. She attended every Town Board Meeting in Amboy for 25 years (1983-2008). Edith and her husband John enjoyed fishing, bird watching and photography.

Surviving is a niece, Ann Fox and her husband John of Wilmington, DE; nephews David Floyd and his wife Gayle of Wilmington, DE and George Floyd of Orlando, FL; a great niece Patricia Fox, Newark, DE ; several cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John and sisters Jane Floyd and Maxyne Ely.

A service celebrating the life of Edith A. Files, will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 N. Main Street, Amboy, IN with Pastor Dwight Elliott officiating. Burial will be in the Park Lawn Cemetery, Amboy. Family and friends will gather from 5:00-8:00 PM, Monday at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home.
