David Fenske, 84, of Bunker Hill, IN., passed away peacefully November, 10, 2019 at Dukes Memorial Hospital in Peru, IN. surrounded by his family. He was born August 13, 1935 in Spring Valley, MN., the son of Martin and Virginia Fenske who preceded him in death. He married Maureen Miller on February 5, 1953 in Rochester, MN., and she survives.
David graduated from Spring Valley High School in Minnesota in 1952. He served his country for twenty years in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1974 and retired as a Master Sergeant. He served in Thailand, Vietnam and numerous SAC bases stateside and overseas during the Cold War. He then worked for Northrup Aviation at Grissom Air Force Base from 1975-1992. David was very active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru. He served as a lay minister, church properties and cemetery property director and many positions of leadership in the Lutheran faith. He volunteered his time with the Logansport Memorial Hospital and as a driver for the Red Cross. He enjoyed reading, fishing, gardening and wintering in Yuma, AZ.
Surviving are his wife, Maureen; daughters, Patricia (Carl) Wade of Bunker Hill, Nanette (Dennis) Orpurt of Peru and Mary (Dean) Ramsey of Galveston, IN., eight grandchildren; David (Robin) Wade, Monon, IN, Misty Wade (Matt) Hartkey, Kokomo, IN., Seth Williams, Peru, Michael (Susana) Williams, Peru, Adam Williams, Peru, Katie Ramsey (Greg) Anderson, Zionsville, IN., Ryan (Alyssa) Ramsey, Greenville, MI., Mckayla Ramsey, Purdue; twenty-one great-grandchildren; brothers, Don Fenske of Rochester, MN. and Wayne Fenske of Reed’s Landing, MN. and a sister Cleo Fenske Lee of Wabasha, MN.
David was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews, several brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
A service celebrating the life of David Fenske will held Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 181 W. Main St. in Peru, IN, with Pastor Kenneth Greenwald officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Miami County Rites Unit, Peru, IN. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W, Main St. Peru, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
