Charles George Soames died May 19, 2019 at Swedish Medical Center, Denver, Colorado. A resident of Byron, Wyoming, Charles was born October 6, 1946 in Peru, Indiana, the son of the Late CPA Charles B. Soames III and his wife, Elizabeth Lee Soames. Charles graduated from Peru High School in 1964 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Where he completed four years of service and achieved the rank of Sargent. Charles completed two tours in Vietnam. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Metal with three stars, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Aircrew Insignia with three stars, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge and the Air Medal ten times. He attended 10 weeks of the Naval Supply Clerk CRS, Operations against Guerilla units and 8 weeks of NCO Leadership Course. Charles Completed his duty in 1969, then worked for the C&O Railroad before leaving for the west to work for Burlington Northern Railroad. He took his payout from Burlington Northern and started his publishing business, Wolverine Distributing, Inc. in 1995. Charles operated this business, publishing and selling books throughout the United States that promoted Wyoming and Wyoming History until his retirement in 2017. Charles loved the west and hunting, fishing, camping and hiking the Wyoming countryside. Charles believed in the Lord with all his heart and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Charles is survived by his sister, Cynthia E. Soames and twelve first cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, three aunts, three uncles and seven first cousins. Graveside services with Full Military Honors will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Cynthia asks that contributions be made through the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St., Peru, to the Miami County Military Rites Unit.
