Charles E. Butler, 89, of Peru, passed away at 7:53 P.M., Friday, January 11, 2019 at Dukes Memorial Hospital, Peru. He was born in Peru on November 15, 1929, the son of Floyd and Merle Wolfe Butler. Charlie married Betty Boyer at the First Baptist Church, Peru on September 16, 1949 and she survives. Charlie was a 1948 Peru High School graduate and worked at Stellite for 17 years before working as a Machinist for 19 years for Chrysler, retiring in 1993. He was a member and Honorary Deacon of the First Baptist Church. He was a avid fisherman, especially enjoyed ice fishing and golfing. What a man, what a life lived, Charlie made such a positive impression on many lives. He was someone who taught through example and was a living definition of the word dedicated. A dedicated and devoted husband, a dedicated follower of Christ, a dedicated and involved father and grandfather, a dedicated fisherman and golfer and dedicated friend to many. He demonstrated traits that many can only hope to emulate, like patience, kindness, even temper and his strong values. He will be missed by many and we know that Heaven has gained one heck of an Angel Surviving in addition to his wife, Betty are his daughters Deborah and Dr. Raymond Hopper of Noblesville, IN and Janet and Chris Christensen of Macy, IN; a brother Jerry (Karron) Butler of Peru; a sister Martha Graham Peru; grandchildren Ryan (Katie) Hopper of Encinitas, CA, Jason (Jessica) Hopper Roseville, CA and Amy(Zak) Shobe Noblesville, IN; a step-granddaughter Christy (Chris) McGuire; great-grandchildren Jacob Hopper, Benjamin Hopper, Ava Hopper, Audrey Hopper, Gus Hopper, Max Shobe, Ari Shobe and Benjamin “Ziggy” Shobe; step great-grandchildren Trey Christensen, Masyn, Avery, Regan, Kynle and Kaden McGuire; step great-great grandson Jason J. Christensen Charles was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Dorothy Maus and Mary Jane Mock; step grandson, Jason E. Christensen; and step great-great-grandson, Everett Christensen. A service celebrating the life of Charles E. Butler will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the First Baptist Church, 53 E. Main St., Peru with Pastor Robert Adelsperger officiating. Burial will be in Peoria Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the First Baptist Church.
