Albert William Calendine, 86, of Peru passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 peacefully at home. He was born in Marietta, Ohio on February 29, 1932 to Lee and Adda (Ball) Calendine. He married Shirley Cunningham in 1953 and had three children: Linda Evans and her husband Jeff, Richard Calendine and his wife Cora, and Alan Calendine. Six grandchildren, Scott Evans (Amanda), Erin Marzolf (Lamont), Shelley Cosner (Anthony), Ashley Flanagan (Chris), Bryan Calendine, and Jordan Calendine. He also had twelve great-grandchildren. In 1987, Al married Janet Miller and she survives. Her children include Greg Miller (fiancé Denise), Lisa Schrader and her husband Bob, and Derek Miller and his wife Lynn. Three grandchildren, Ryan Miller, Jena Chopson (Doug), Sara Schrader (fiancé Devin), and one great-grandchild, Eli. He served during the Korean Conflict and in the Vietnam War in the United States Air Force. He received twelve decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal and retired as a CMSgt after 24 years of service. Al then worked for 10 years at Continental Steel and 17 years at Maconaquah School Corporation as a carpenter. He loved carpentry work and built his daughter’s house in Wabash River Estates and remodeled several other homes including his own. He did 100 percent restoration of a 1966 Mustang Convertible that took him three years to accomplish. He was a member of the Salem Christian Church, Peru. A service celebrating the life of Al Calendine will be held at 1PM Monday, February 25 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St., Peru, with Pastor John Rhodes officiating. Visitation will be from 10AM to 1PM on Monday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Peru with military rites provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Salem Christian Church or Premier Hospice.
