A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Roy H. Atkinson, Jr. will be held at 11:30 AM, Thursday, December 17, 2015 at the St. Charles Catholic Church, 58 W. 5th St., Peru, IN with Rev. Family and Friends will gather from 4:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru, IN. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the funeral home

Roy H. Atkinson, Jr., 85 of Peru passed away at 7:25 AM Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the Blair Ridge Health Campus. He was born in Peru on February 25, 1930 the son of Roy H. and Marie Langer Atkinson Sr. Roy married Lillian Kemle in Peru on August 17, 1958 and she preceded him in death on April 28, 1999.
Roy graduated from Peru High School in 1948 where he participated in football, basketball and track. Master Paratrooper Atkinson served with the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team during the Korean War. He participated in airborne operations on the town Sukehonsunchon, North Korea on October 20, 1950 as part of the Battle of Pakchon. His military declarations include Japanese Occupation Medal, Korean Service Medal with six bronze stars, The United Nations Service Medal, The American Defense Service Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, the South Korean Service Medal Presidential Unit Citation for meritorious service, Senior Paratrooper Wings and Gliderman Wings. Roy was a qualified jump master and parachute rigger.

Roy returned to civilian life in 1953 and was hired as a stock boy by Delco Radio in Kokomo and retired in 1993 as a Senior Engineering and Manufacturing Technician.

A devout Catholic Roy was an active member of the St. Charles Catholic Church. His memberships also include the Elks Lodge, the Peru Maennerchor, the Peru Miami VFW Post #2067 and American Legion Glen Owens Post #14 was he was a past Commander.
Survivors include his sons Gregory Atkinson and his wife Jane of Kokomo, IN, and Erik Atkinson and his wife Tonya of Peru, IN, daughters Marlene Stilwell and her husband James of Sumter, SC, Karen Cruikshank and her husband Robert of Peru, IN, Stephanie Dicken and her husband Jeffrey of Peru, IN, grandchildren Alicia Liska, Shannon Atkinson, Kelly Atkinson, Anthony Atkinson, Nick Atkinson, Lyndi Burns, Kendal Cole, Katie Waites, Alex Dicken, Christopher Dicken; great grandchildren Nash Liska, Raegan Burns, Ryder Burns, Lauryn Atkinson and James Waites, a sister in law Irma Atkinson, special friend Sue Miles and god child Michaele Kelly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lillian, one brother Joseph Atkinson and sisters Mary Steinhauer and Ann Marie Wilkinson.

Family and Friends will gather from 4:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru, IN. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Roy’s family would like thank Guardian Angel Hospice and Blair Ridge for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to St. Charles Catholic Church.
