Martin A. Snider, 77, of Peru, IN, passed away at 11:45 PM, Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN. He was born May11, 1934 in Burlington, IN, the son of Arthur E. and Lois Dorothy Martin Snider. Marty married Janet Bowman in Peru on September 11, 1971 and she survives.
Marty was a 1952 graduate of Royal Center High School and attended the University of Miami on a basketball scholarship and following graduation from college he played in the ABA.
He had various occupations during his life and retired from Maibens in 1991. Marty served as the Maconaquah Ball Park Commissioner in the 1970’s and 1980’s. He was a former trustee of the Literary Aid Society and was a college basketball scout from 1970 until his death.
Surviving in addition to his wife Jan, is his mother Lois Snider of Lafayette, IN; children Melanie (Doyle) Burgess of Denver, IN, Sandra Hatten (Mike Shaw) of Rochester, IN, Margaret (John) Anderson of Twelve Mile, IN, Joe McMullen (his partner Michael) of San Diego, CA, Julie (Joe) Wright of Peru, IN, Jerry (Rhonda) McMullen of North Carolina, Ed Snider of Pennsylvania, Michelle Snider of Pennsylvania, Melody Snider of Pennsylvania, Lucinda Snider of North Carolina and Beth (Frank) Meadows; 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters Katy (George) Ade of Lafayette, IN and Jill (Mike) Poeline of Lafayette, IN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service celebrating the life of Martin A. Snider will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 12, 2012 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main Street, Peru, IN. Burial will at Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Cass County, IN. Family and friends will gather from 1:00-8:00 PM, Sunday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.
