Jean Smyth, 87, of Peru, IN, passed away at 8:02 P.M., Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at her residence. She was born in Miami, IN on May 17, 1926, the daughter of John Henry and Mabel Irene Wilson Grant. Jean married Hobert W. Smyth on November 15, 1947 and he survives.

Jean was a 1944 graduate of Peru High School and worked at Square D until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of the Peru Grace Brethren, the IA of MA and AW, the Peru Labor Trades, and the Miami County United Way Board.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Hobert, is her daughter, Joyce Ann Hughes and her husband Terry of Peru, and son, Gregory Smyth and his wife Tammy J. of Sharpsville, IN, a daughter-in-law, Karen Smyth; grandchildren, Nina White (Tim), Richard Hughes (Missy), Samantha Guest, Nichole Wilson (Tom) and Brandon Smyth; great-grandchildren, Alexandra White, Kathryn White, Austin White, Wyatt Hughes, Maggie Hughes, Bryce Smyth, and Chloe Smyth; sisters, Bonnie Pletka (John) of West Monroe, LA and Johnette Carmean (Paul) of Morgantown, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Col. A.G. “John” Grant and Robert “Corky” Grant, sister Beverley Brewer and a great-grandson, Owen Hughes.

A service celebrating the life of Jean Smyth will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Peru Grace Brethren, 430 S. Broadway, Peru with Pastor David Jodry officiating. Burial will follow at Ever Rest Memorial Park, Logansport, IN. Family and friends will gather from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main, Peru, IN.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Peru Grace Brethren Church.
