Deana Glassburn, 63, of Peru, passed away at 11:03 A.M., Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN. She was born in Peru, IN on November 1, 1950 the daughter of Nelson E. and Dorothy Shively Glassburn.
Deana was a 1969 graduate of Maconaquah High School, received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Ball State University in 1973 and her Master of Science in Education from Indiana University.
Deana was hired as a first-year teacher at Randall Elementary School in August of 1973. She continued in this position until June of 1992 at which time she served as an Interim Elementary Assistant Principal for Randall and Maconaquah Elementary Schools. She taught 5th grade at Maconaquah Elementary for the 1994-1995 school year. From August of 1995 to May of 2000 she taught 4th grade at Pipe Creek Elementary. In August of 2000, Deana became the Assistant Principal at Maconaquah Elementary. Beginning in July of 2004, Deana was appointed as Principal of Pipe Creek Elementary, where she remained until her retirement in June of 2008.
A master gardener, Deana loved to work in her yard and found great joy in her flower gardens. She was a avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and thoroughly enjoyed golfing. She was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association and President of the Miami County Retired Teachers Association. She was the Treasurer of the Maconaquah Class of 1969 Reunion Committee.
She is survived by a sister, Darlene Palmer, nieces, Drenda Baber, Jody Palmer and Katrina Stevens; a nephew, Nelson W. Glassburn; and great-nieces, Rebekka Stevens, Rachael Stevens, Rachelle Tinsley and Randi Lynn Tinsley. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Darl Glassburn.
A service celebrating the life of Deana Glassburn will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main, Peru with Pastor Kenny Cole officiating. Burial will be in the Santa Fe Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 4:00 to 8:00P.M., Saturday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.
