Charles E. Hays, 88 of Peru, IN passed away at 9:51 AM, Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Dukes Memorial Hospital. He was born in Connersville, IN on May 10, 1926 the son of Edwin and Bertha Hays. Charles was married to Juanita Fields Hays for more than 60 years and she preceded him in death. He married Mary Christopher Hays on November 9, 2013 and she survives.
Charlie was a member of the New Life Methodist Church and a graduate of Short High School in Liberty, IN. He was a U.S. Navy W.W. II Veteran and a member of the Peru Miami Lodge #67 F&AM, the Peru Elks Lodge, Mizpah Shrine of Fort Wayne, and was recording secretary of the Peru Maennerchor.
Charlie was an avid golfer, and enjoyed traveling to many destinations throughout the US in his RV. Family was paramount to him and he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife Mary are step children Gloria North and her husband David of Peru, Eric Brumbaugh and his wife Jaclynn of Peru, and Wayne Brumbaugh and his wife Audrey of Peru. 7 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews including Vilas Wiwi and her husband Brad of Liberty, IN, Vanita Alcorn and her husband Bo of Liberty, IN and Jim Fields and his wife Ellen of Liberty, IN and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. And his beloved dog Corky the Yorkie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Juanita and a son Gayle V. Hays.
Family and friends will gather from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru, IN. There will be a Masonic Service at 7:30 PM and a funeral service at 8:00 PM with Pastor Sam Polito officiating. Military graveside services will be at 1:00 PM, Thursday June 12, 2014 at the Dunlapsville Cemetery in Dunlapsville, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
