Steve Garner, 68, of Peru, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and loved ones at 10:34 P.M., Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo, IN. He was born in Kokomo, IN on January 3, 1949 the son of Everett and Betty Lou Isaacs Garner. Steve married Toni Steele on May 2, 1997 and she survives. Steve was a 1967 graduate of Kokomo High School and served in the US Army. After working at Chrysler for 35 years, Steve retired in 2001 to spend more time with his family. He was a member of the Eagles, the UAW and the Maennerchor where he was also a former Trustee. Surviving in addition to his wife, Toni, is his mother Betty Lou Garner of Kokomo, daughters Dawn Birnell and her husband Dale of Peru, Miranda Garner of Portland OR, Heather Sparks of Peru and Nikki Gomez and her husband Carlos of Peru, a sister Cathy Bennett and her husband Gary; grandchildren Zach Birnell, Bailey Mavrick, Dylan Hopper, Christian Hopper, Jacob Hopper and Vanesa Gomez; great-grandchildren Serenity Birnell and Zerreck Birnell and several Aunts and Uncles including Uncle Michael Isaacs. Steve was preceded in death by his father and a brother Greg Garner. A Service celebrating the life of Steve Garner will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main Street, Peru with Pastor Randy Blankenship officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Peru with Military Graveside Services provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit. Family and friends will gather from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M, Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society.
