Richard Perry Ross, 89, of Peru, passed away at 6:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Blair Ridge Health Campus, Peru. He was born in Rochester, IN on February 7, 1928 the son of Donald D. and Reva Perry Ross. Dick married the mother of his children, Marcia Senger, in 1953 and she survives. Dick married Janice Sherman Crates in 1974 and she preceded him in death in 1988. He married Nancy Scull Egerton in 1997 and she preceded him in death in 2015. Dick was a 1945 graduate of Rochester High School and a US Army Veteran. Following discharge from the Army, Dick attended Butler University and graduated in 1951. He received his Master’s Degree in Music from Columbia University. Dick was a retired merchant, he served as Vice-President at Senger Dept. Stores. In 1974 he moved to Lafayette and joined the staff Loeb’s Dept. Store. He later became the Manager of Michael Furniture Gallery in Lafayette, a position he held until his retirement in 1997. Dick was a member of the Rochester Masonic Lodge, the Indianapolis Scottish Rite and the Murat Shrine of Indianapolis. He played the trumpet with the Indianapolis Symphony. Dick had a lifelong love of music and compiled many recordings of his favorite songs and shared them with his family and friends. Dick was always quick with a smile and offered words of wisdom and gentle guidance to many throughout his life time. He was a warm, kind hearted and generous man who exemplified integrity. Surviving are daughters Melinda Ross, Winter Haven, FL, Melissa (Greg) Smith, Glendale, CA and Jennifer (Kerry) McCammon, Sugarland, TX, a brother John (Darlene) Ross, Indianapolis, daughter-in-law Carla Ross, Peru, grandchildren Frederick(Jamie) Ross, Ian McCammon, Jeremy Ross and Donovan Stanley and great-grandchildren Matthew Ross, Alexander Ross, Neil Ross and Alivia Ross. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives Janice and Nancy, a son Freddie Ross, a daughter Allison Crates Stanley and a sister Rosanna Iler. A service celebrating the life of Richard Perry Ross will be held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St., Peru. . Family and friends will gather from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M., Saturday at the funeral home. Military graveside services will be provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit, at 2:00 P.M., Sunday at the IOOF Rochester Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Miami County Military Rites Unit.
