Ralph D. Sommers, 85, formerly of Peru, passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Cecilia at 5:14 PM, Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the residence of his daughter Cindy in Noblesville, IN. He was born in Summerfield, KS on September 26, 1931, the son of Monroe and Erma Shrock Sommers. Ralph married the light of his life Cecilia Roberts on June 9, 1951 and she preceded him in death on January 26, 2011. They spent their life together raising four children in Peru. Ralph was a small business owner in Peru for many years. He was a fixture in the community and a friend to many. Ralph’s gentle nature and positive outlook will serve as an example to his family for many years to come. A devout Roman Catholic, Ralph was an active member of the St. Charles Catholic Church. Ralph was an avid golfer for most of his life. He enjoyed all sports and loved to travel, but was happiest when his entire family was together. Surviving is a sister Linda (Charlie) Easten, Rochester, IN; children Margie (Dick) Maurer, Peru, Jennifer (Larry) Carrothers, Peru, Cynthia (Mike) North, Noblesville and Rob Sommers, Indianapolis; grandchildren Dennis (Mindy) Maurer, Brian (Leigh) Carr, Cynthia (Kyle) Parnham, James Carr, Michael (Laura) North, Elizabeth (Tim) Althouse, David (Tiffany) North, Erika Sommers and great grandchildren Austin, Caitlyn, Justin, Hannah, Noah, Emma, Olivia, Teigan, Alyssa, Maverick, Kyle, Campbell and Bane. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years “Ceci” and siblings Paul Sommers, Mary Saylors, Betty Wright and Clara Jean Baker. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Ralph D. Sommers will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday July 3, 2017 at the St. Charles Catholic Church, 58 W. 5th Street, Peru, IN with Rev. Don Sexton officiating. Burial will be at the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:30 AM, Monday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main Street, Peru, IN. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the St. Charles Catholic Church Restoration Fund.
