Lloyd Dale "Bud" Nickels

Lloyd Dale “Bud” Nickels, 87, of Peru, passed away at 7:40 AM, Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Blair Ridge Health Campus. He was born in Fulton, Indiana on October 16, 1930 the son of Ermal and Edna Ford Nickels. On August 10, 1979 Bud married Marie Personett in Denver, Indiana and she survives. Bud was a 1948 graduate Liberty Township High School in Buffalo, Indiana. He served as a Non Commission Officer in the US Air Force for twenty years retiring in 1968, he was a Viet Nam and Korean War Veteran, and his Military Declarations include, the Viet Nam Campaign Medal, The Viet Nam Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Upon retirement from the Air Force he worked at Wilson’s Foods till his retirement in 1985. Bud was particular proud of his service to the American Legion, holding the High Office of Northern Vice Commander from 1990-1991, and Fifth District Commander from 1980-1981. He was a member of American Legion Glen Owens Post #14 Bud was an active member of the Oakdale Baptist Church and spent many years as Moderator and Deacon of the Church. Surviving in addition to his wife Marie are a daughter Cathy Elwell, of Lafayette, IN, a step-son Francis “Butch” Struble  of Muncie, IN, a step-daughter Audrey and her husband Ernesto Verde, of Phoenix, AZ, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Doris Barton and Mary Lions. A service celebrating the life of Lloyd Dale “Bud” Nickels will be held Monday, October 23, 2017, at 11:00 AM, at the Oakdale Baptist Church, 348 Chili Avenue, Peru, IN with Pastor Robert Stuck officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hope with full Military Honors provided by the Miami County Rites Unit. Family and friends will gather from 2:00-5:00 PM Sunday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main Street, Peru, IN. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Oakdale Baptist Church. The family, on behalf of Lloyd “Bud” Nickels, wishes to thank the Blair Ridge Nurses and Staff, as well as Premier Hospice for the tender loving care he received while at Blair Ridge.
