Junior O. “J.O.” Garber, 90, of Peru, passed away 2:50 P.M., Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Blair Ridge Health Campus, Peru. He was born in Miami County, IN on December 14, 1926 the son of Oren O. and Helen Schauman Garber. J.O. married Joan Maugans on June 25, 1951 and she preceded him in death on August 12, 2017. J.O. was a graduate of Onward High School and a member of America’s Greatest Generation serving in the US Navy during WWII. His military decorations include the American Area Ribbon the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon and the WWII Victory Medal. J. O. was employed as a Brakeman/Conductor on the C&O Railroad retiring in 1989

He is survived by daughters Beth Ann Krauskopf and her husband Stephen of Battle Creek, MI and Brenda Kay Hammond and her husband Jerry of Peru. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan, a granddaughter Audrey Lynn Noble, a brother Orval Garber and a sister Catherine Stewart

A memorial service celebrating the life of J.O. Garber will be held at 6:00 P.M., Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main Street, Peru, with Rev. J. Robert Clark officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to Miami County Helping Hands.
