Ann Cypherd

June 5, 1940 ~ July 30, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Ann Cypherd, 77, Lafayette, IN, passed away July 30, 2017 following extended health problems. Born in Peru, IN, Ann was the daughter of Duey & Ruby Cypherd. Surviving is a sister, Eileen Cypherd See, Denver, IN, one brother Dick Cypherd (Judy) West Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are 8 nieces and 1 nephew. Several great nieces and nephews, and 2 great-great nieces, along with a very special group of loving cousins. Ann graduated from Peru High School in 1958, Franklin College in 1962 and received her Masters at Ball State in 1967. Ann was a member of the First Baptist Church, Peru, IN where she sang in the Angel choir and later sang in the Adult Chancel Choir along with her father. She was a member of the Batesville United Methodist Church where she was the Choir Director. In addition, she also served as church organist and started the English Handbell Choir. Ann was a member of the Peru Chapter of Psi Iota Xi Sorority and a member of Delta Zeta Sorority at Franklin College. She was Charter member of the Tri County Genealogical Society in Batesville. Ann also worked with and taught Sign Language and Lip Reading which became a necessary and vital part of her life. In addition, she was helpful in teaching her caregivers in communicating with other hearing impaired persons. Ann’s favorite hobby was Family Genealogy, which she spent many hours working and traveling around gathering information. Ann spent 34 years of teaching in the Batesville School system, where she was President of the Batesville Educator’s Association, as well as being in charge of Programmed Tutoring from Indiana University and the Remedial Readin classes. She took special interest in her student’s progress, and kept in touch with many of them over the years. Ann lived in Batesville her entire adult life until 2007 when she entered Saint Anthony Health Care Center in Lafayette. Ann was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, a brother-in-law, James See and a great niece, Jasmine Hembree. A service to celebrate Ann’s life will be held August 12, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, Peru, IN . Visitation at 1:00 followed by memorial service at 2:00 P.M., with pastors Rev. Charles Flory of Batesville and Rev. Bob Adelsperger, Peru First Baptist. Burial will be held at Mt. Hop0e Cemetery, Peru. In lieu of flowers, Ann requests ,memorial donations be given to Peru First Baptist Church, or the Last Supper Museum, LLC 311 W. Walnut St, Greensburg, IN 47240
